So do we.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sadly, not everyone is able to do the same for themselves or their loved ones. Even more tragic is the fact that for some, crime is closer to home than we think. Imagine knowing that you are unable to protect yourself or your children from crime being committed within your home?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first Lifeline that was designed for MPLL was the Domestic Violence Assistance, which aims to get a domestic violence victim away from the abuser into a place of safety and provide support to take back control of their and their children\u2019s lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Depending on the source, at least one in four women and one in seven men have been abused by a current or former intimate partner. The reality is that we all probably know someone who is a victim of domestic abuse and often have no idea on how to even raise our concern or offer help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>AN EXCLUSIVE OFFER TO INDWE CLIENTS.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Any Indwe client, who has a MPLL policy, can nominate a victim to receive the domestic abuse benefits and support.* This lifeline is intended to get the victim to a place of safety and to limit further intimidation or manipulation by the abuser. The Domestic Violence Assistance includes the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A professional security guard will be sent to collect the victim and\/or children.<\/li><li>Assistance in opening a criminal case against the perpetrator.<\/li><li>Hotel accommodation for up to 3 days to the value of R6 000 per annum.<\/li><li>A cell phone loaded with pre-paid airtime to the value of R200.<\/li><li>A debit card pre-loaded with R500.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Maybe this gives someone the confidence to start a new life.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Offering help or support is likely a very complicated and sensitive matter.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How do you help a friend, a family member, or a colleague who you suspect needs help escaping from a violent or life-threatening relationship? How do you show you care without overstepping personal boundaries or without the risk of making a bad situation even worse? How do you even broach such a sensitive subject?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li><strong>Tell them you are worried about them and why you\u2019re worried.<\/strong> When said with compassion, and without judgment, this statement lets them know that you care, and may also help them feel less alone.<\/li><li><strong>Ask what they would like to see happen.<\/strong> Too often, we try to \u201chelp\u201d by telling someone who is being abused what they should do. Asking about what they would like to see happen puts power back into their hands \u2014 power that has likely been taken away.<\/li><li><strong>Offer to contact MPLL and activate the Domestic Violence benefit on their behalf<\/strong>. You let MPLL know, and they explain the next steps and available support and the next steps to you and the victim. <a href=\"https:\/\/mypersonallifeline.co.za\/DomesticViolence.html\">https:\/\/mypersonallifeline.co.za\/DomesticViolence.html<\/a><\/li><li><strong>Let them know that the abuse is not their fault.<\/strong> One common tactic utilized by abusive partners is to blame the victim for the abuse. Let them know that it does not matter what they did or did not do; no one has a right to hurt, scare, or control them. There is never a justification for abuse, and it is never the victim\u2019s fault.<\/li><li><strong>Be there to support them, whatever they decide.<\/strong> Too often, our message is, \u201cI\u2019m here for you, if you leave.\u201d Make sure they know you support them, and that you will continue to do so &#8211; unconditionally.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When someone you know is being abused, your presence and concern are incredibly important, empowering, and could ultimately save their life. So please, keep listening, keep supporting, keep caring and never give up.
