Here is a checklist of the top ten.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Phone charger<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Keep a spare charger in your car for those moments when your phone\u2019s battery is critically low and you need to call for emergency help.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong>Torch<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>You can use the torch app on your phone but it will drain your battery, so keep a torch with spare batteries. It\u2019s important if you\u2019re stuck at night or need to look inside the bonnet or under the car.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong>Jumper cables<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Batteries can go flat, so keep jumper cables in your boot and make sure you know how to use them. You will, however, need to ask a Good Samaritan to help you start your car!<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li><strong>Spare wheel<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If you have a puncture you\u2019ll have to change your tyre, so it\u2019s crucial that your spare is in good condition. Also check that you have a wrench and jack, and that you know how to change a tyre.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li><strong>Tyre sealant<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In case you don\u2019t know how to change your tyre or you need a quick solution, have an aerosol sealant so that you can temporarily plug the leak and get to the closest petrol station.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"6\">\n<li><strong>Owner\u2019s manual<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Keep this in your cubbyhole as it has very useful information about how your car operates. It could help you identify and fix the problem to get you back on the road.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"7\">\n<li><strong>Reflective triangles<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>By law you need to have a double-sided red reflective triangle in your vehicle. If you\u2019ve broken down on the side of a public road, use it to warn other motorists.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"8\">\n<li><strong>First aid kit<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Having a basic kit in your car could save someone\u2019s life.
