By its very nature <strong>weather<\/strong> is unpredictable, so how do you safeguard your family and property? Indwe shares a few top tips to help you get prepared for the next big <strong>storm<\/strong>.<!--more--><br \/>\n<br \/>\n<strong>YOUR HOME<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Roof. Inspect your roof and fix leaks, cracks and broken tiles to prevent water from causing damage to your home. If you have a thatch roof, ensure you have an approved lightening conductor installed.<\/li>\n<li>Gutters. These should be cleaned of debris on a regular basis so that water does not stagnate but flows easily down the drains.<\/li>\n<li>Drains. All drains and downpipes should be checked and any blockages removed so that water moves away from your property.<\/li>\n<li>Doors and windows. These should all be properly maintained so that when you close them there is an effective seal which prevents water from entering your home.<\/li>\n<li>Trees. Trim trees on your property and remove dead branches that could cause damage if they fell during a storm.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n<strong>YOUR CAR<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Windscreen wipers. Inspect the rubber on the front and back windscreen wipers and ensure that the wipers are working efficiently.<\/li>\n<li>Lights. Headlights and hazards must be checked and bulbs replaced if necessary.<\/li>\n<li>Tyres. It\u2019s essential that your tyres be properly inflated, have the required level of tread remaining and be free of damage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n<strong>DURING A STORM<\/strong><br \/>\n<br \/>\nFor your safety you should remain indoors until the storm passes, however, if you are in your car, drive slowly and keep a safe following distance. Turn on your headlights and if you pull over, switch on your hazard lights. Avoid parking under trees, rather try to find a bridge or covered car park and wait for the storm to pass.
