Purpose:
To provide leadership to a commercial team focused on retaining and growing profitable clients and acquiring new profitable commercial business.

Reporting line (immediate manager): Regional Manager: Mpumalanga

Minimum requirements
Education:

  • Matric
  • Level 4 FETC short-term insurance qualification
  • Passed the FAIS regulatory exams for representatives
  • Higher Certificate in Insurance
  • Diploma in Business/Risk Management an advantage

Experience:

  • 7-10 years’ short-term commercial insurance sales and service experience in a brokerage (proven track record) 
  • Corporate experience is an advantage
  • 3 years in a management or supervisory capacity (proven track record)
  • Past experience in the day-to-day servicing of clients in the platteland would be an advantage

Key Performance Areas

Key Performance Outputs

1. Increase Indwe’s market share

  • To develop and implement a growth plan from current business.
  • Analyse the local economic environment that the branch operates within and identify new business opportunities.
  • Translate marketing/sales plans into individual team’s performance objectives.
  • Manage the sales process and provide leadership for the sales team to achieve and exceed targets.
  • Ensure each account has a growth plan and target.

2. Sustainable Profitability of the portfolio

  • Ensure that the portfolio is profitable and sustainable by writing quality business.
  • Identify and create opportunities for cross and up-selling.
  • Manage the sales budget to ensure return on investments.

3. Build and manage the relationship between Indwe and its new and existing clients

  • Identify key decision-makers and build strategic relationships. 
  • Create business development opportunities by identifying specific client needs and providing appropriate risk solutions.
  • Brand ambassador – Ensure that the Indwe brand is positioned positively in the market.
  • Ensure a multi-tier relationship is in place for the branch’s top twenty accounts.
  • Ensure appropriate Indwe service standards are in place for all commercial business.

4. Operational effectiveness

  • Develop and manage processes and systems to ensure efficient and effective integration of new business written.
  • Approve new business according to set standards.
  • Ensure that the budget is managed appropriately (no deviations, if any – prior motivation).
  • Assist with broking of large commercial and corporate clients in the branch where necessary, and service allocated portfolios on a daily basis.

5. Human Capital growth and development

  • Ensure the recruitment and retention of key personnel.
  • Ensure the implementation of the Performance Management System to build a high-performance ecology within the organisation.
  • Train and develop staff (guidance, mentoring, formal training).
  • Effective management of employee relations.
  • General people management administration – e.g. leave.
  • Create positive energy among the team.

6. Transformation

  • Ensure the attraction and selection of top calibre EE candidates in line with regional targets.
  • Accelerate the development of key EE personnel for succession planning.
  • Contribute towards the achievement of the Regional BBBEE targets (Scorecard).
