While driving, you can be distracted by many factors inside and outside your car. But what are the main distractions?
What are you looking at?
The alarming extent to which drivers lose concentration has been highlighted by researchers. A UK study revealed that motorists take their eyes off the road for almost a fifth of their time behind the wheel, rising to nearly a quarter if they use a satnav.
Evidence from revolutionary eye-tracking technology shows that drivers take their eyes off the road, on average, every nine seconds, having been attracted by passing clouds, adverts, scenery and a host of other distractions.
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT?
What motorists really look at when driving:
Buildings
Scenery
Sat nav
Pedestrians
Advertising posters
Map
Radio
Passenger
Parked vehicles
Clouds
Here is what the eye-tracking study revealed:

Clouds looking like one of Santa’s reindeer might distract you.

What are you doing?
What are the main distractions INSIDE your car? Perhaps it’s eating that juicy burger you just bought at a drive-through during your lunch time? Maybe it’s unruly kids in the back seat? Or updating your Facebook profile while sitting in traffic?
Separate research says that three-quarters of motorists admit being distracted behind the wheel.
The main distractions include fiddling with the radio or CD changer (54 percent), drinking or eating something (47 percent for each), making a call or texting on a hand-held phone (16 percent for each), and dozing off (4%), updating Facebook (2%) and applying make-up (5%).
