Indwe Risk Services hosted their 28^th SA Senior Stroke Play Championship at Kyalami Country Club from the 19^th – 21^st of October, where top-ranked Steve Williams swung to victory.

The 55-year-old golfer from Modderfontein had to fight hard to beat home favourite Greg Gleeson, as well as Krugerdorp local – Stephen Rossiter. Williams shot a final round 74 and took the title on three-over-par 219.

It was a historic win for Williams, who is now the first golfer in South African history to hold the senior national titles on the amateur and pro circuit at the same time. Before taking the title Williams had this to say, “To hold both the SA Senior Open and SA Senior Stroke Play title would be something incredibly special, so that is definitely on my mind.”

Williams is the reigning SA Senior Open champion and he has been splitting his time between the mid-amateur and senior circuits, where he is enjoying huge success since returning two years ago.

“This is a pretty special achievement and it means the world to me, especially after the way I had to fight to get the job done,” said Williams. “I really, really wanted to win this one. I guess it will take a while to sink in because I’ve wanted this for so long.”
