With the festive season drawing nearer, it is important for us to be more careful and vigilant. The hustle and bustle of shopping and entertaining make the festive season a time when people are more prone to have accidents than any other time of the year. So, in order to help you make this holiday season a safe and happy one, here are some festive season safety tips.

1. Don’t get loaded down with too many bags. Try to keep one hand free.

2. Try and avoid taking young children into busy shopping areas but if it is unavoidable, make sure they know what to do if they lose you.

3. Agree on a meeting point with older children in case you get separated. Keep alert and aware of your surroundings, especially in busy shops and crowded streets where thieves and pickpockets may well be operating.

4. With shopping centres having extended shopping hours, always park in well-lit areas.

5. Avoid carrying large amounts of cash.

6. Beware of strangers approaching. Con artists may try to distract you.

7. Never leave personal items or packages in plain sight in your vehicle or in an unattended trolley.

8. Be aware of other motorists around you in parking areas.  Sudden stopping, slow driving and reversing could lead to a bumper bashing.

9. Don’t leave kids or pets in cars unattended.  It’s not only a safety risk but the hot weather can cause dangerous temperature increases in the vehicle.

10. Watch your handbag and ensure it’s properly closed or zipped up.
